COVID Policy Update

At BAIS, we are committed to the transformation of hearts and minds in community. To do this, we seek to provide education that is excellent and compassionate. This COVID season has stretched us in ways that we could not have imagined as we have sought to provide an excellent educational experience that complied with local laws and health regulations that seemed to at times go against what we know are best practices for learning. I want to say that I am so thankful for the support, feedback, and guidance that I and the rest of the leadership team have received from all of you. I know it has not been easy for you either as you have struggled with wanting to protect your children while also seeking to make sure they received the education they deserve.

Today, I would like to take a little bit of time to share with you some changes that we are making to our COVID policies as we seek to continue to provide both a high quality education and one that takes seriously the health and safety of our students. In making these changes, we have consulted the latest recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization, and consulted with other schools both in Indonesia and outside of Indonesia to learn more about the approaches they are taking.

  • In doing so, we have decided that students and staff who test positive for COVID will be asked to isolate for five days at home. On the 5th day after testing positive or after the onset of symptoms, they may return to school with a negative RT-Antigen test. To calculate your 5-day isolation period, day 0 is the first day you experience symptoms or test positive; whichever happens first. If they test positive on the 5th day, they will need to remain home an additional five days and return to school on the 10th day.

  • In addition, close contacts will be informed and asked to monitor symptoms closely, but will not be required to quarantine at home. On the 5th day after exposure they will need to get an RT-Antigen test. An exception to this is for anyone who has had COVID within the past 90 days. Family members of a positive case will quarantine at home, but may return to school if they are symptom free and test negative five days after exposure.

  • All tests must be completed at a clinic. Self-administered tests will not be accepted.

Here is an updated flow chart of the policies above

Thank you all again for your cooperation over the past two years. We continue to praise God for the protection he has given over our community and over our campus. We know that without his sustaining grace that this season would have been much worse than it was, so we are grateful. Please do not hesitate to contact me (travisjulian@baisedu.org) with any questions that you may have.
