From BAIS School Counselor

Hello BAIS community!

At BAIS, we take child safety seriously.  One of our core beliefs is that every child deserves to be safe and successful at school.  We would like to share some of the ways in which we are working towards higher levels of safety and accountability in this area!

  1. Safety Drills – We hold safety drills every year for emergencies such as fire, earthquakes, dangerous people/substances on campus, etc.  In elementary, the students get the opportunity to practice the procedures of this drill during counselor time prior to the drill taking place. This week and next week the elementary students are learning about fire and earthquake safety procedures!
  2. This year, BAIS has formed a Child Safety Team consisting of teachers, admin, and the counselor.  The role of this team will be to evaluate the child safety procedures at BAIS as well as respond to any safety concerns.
  3. The secondary students viewed a video from Ms. Martin regarding the dangers of bullying and how to respond. In the video, bullying was also defined and the seriousness of it was explained. One of the things that students were challenged with was to not turn bullying into a joke as it is something that we all need to take very seriously.
  4. We have created a “Student Safety Concern” report that is available to BAIS students, staff, parents, and community members.  This form is available to fill out if any person has a concern about a BAIS student.  You can find this form here, and it will soon be available on the BAIS website.
  5. Later this year, all of our staff will go through CPR/First Aid training to ensure that we all know how to respond to medical emergencies. Our goal is to be able to do this every two years. We are also looking into purchasing an AED/Defibrillator for our campus and a choking kit for our lunch area. If you would like to know more about how you can help support BAIS in these endeavors to increase student safety through the Heritage Fund, please contact Mr. Julian (travisjulian@baisedu.org).

We are grateful to you, BAIS parents, for entrusting us with the education of your children, and we aim to make this campus and all interactions here safe and enjoyable.  If you have any questions regarding child safety procedures at BAIS, please do not hesitate to reach out to Mr. Julian (interim head of school) or Ms. Martin (counselor).

MAP Testing

BAIS uses the data from the MAP tests to determine the areas of celebration, areas of growth, and the placement of classes for next school year for each student. We want to ensure the student is placed in the right level to ensure optimal learning.

Students will need to bring the following items to school with them:

  • Device fully charged and charging cable. PLEASE NOTE – the chromebooks in the library will NOT be available for students to use.
  • If your student is in ELD/SpEd they will need to bring corded headphones (not bluetooth)

Please ensure that your child has a good night of sleep and a healthy breakfast before coming to school. Your student also should have received a Google Form from me that walks them through on how to set up their devices for MAP testing. Please ensure that they follow the instructions on the Google Form and assist them if needed.
