Why does BAIS exist?

BAIS has been serving the Bandung area for over 60 years. Established in 1956, BAIS has a rich heritage of partnering with parents in the transformative process that takes place between birth and adulthood. Whether your child is in Preschool or Grade 12, we can all point to ways that our children have “transformed” before our eyes. As a school, we are just one of the stops along this transformative journey of life, but we understand that this stop is one of the most, if not the most, influential periods of time in a person’s life.

As a Christian school, we take seriously the warnings throughout the Bible of the influence that teachers have over children and therefore, through professional learning, collaboration, and reflection, we seek to provide an excellent, biblically based education that helps to facilitate growth and prepare students to navigate the twists and turns of this life.

For us, the Bible teaches that the heart is the seat of our decision making, of our physical life, and the place where we feel emotions. Therefore, in partnership with you, we seek to help students gain wisdom to problem solve and approach the challenges in life with resilience and perspective. We seek to help students understand that emotions are not bad – they may not always feel good – but what really matters is how we regulate and react to the emotions that we are feeling. We seek to help students learn the importance of a healthy lifestyle and give them the tools to take care of their physical and mental health.

Mission
BAIS exists to provide every student with a challenging, biblically based, and transformative education, equipping them for a scucessful future.

Transforming Hearts and Minds in Community

But we also understand that a transformed heart is not enough. We are called to excellence of thought as well. Therefore, as students move through BAIS, we seek to help them learn to think critically about the many worldviews and messages that are around them. We seek to equip students with the knowledge and understanding necessary to go on to be experts in their fields of study and to be professionals who conduct themselves with integrity and innovation.

And we do this together. We want to be more than just a school – we want to be a community where we share a common vision- working together to see our children transformed into citizens who seek the good of others. We want to be a community that learns and grows together as we walk through life’s journey; encouraging and lifting each other up when the going gets hard.

So, why does BAIS exist? What ties these all together? It is that fact that every one of our children, and each of us, are made in the image of God. We were created with a purpose: to love God and to love others. In doing so, we hope that we are raising up a generation that is committed to partnering with God to bring about human flourishing in our communities, our countries, and in the world. This is our vision and we look forward to walking with you.
