National Honor Society

At BAIS, we have the privilege of being a part of the National Honor Society (NHS). NHS elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These four pillars have been associated with membership in the organization since its inception in 1921.

Here at BAIS we open National Honor Society Applications for current students in grades 10, 11, and 12. Through the application, students will need to show they have excelled in the four pillars mentioned above. Applications were sent to students this week and will be due back to Mr. Davis by April 11, 2023.

There are 8 current students at BAIS that have been inducted into the National Honor Society: Jinny Park, Sherin Chong, Angel Gunaman, Emily Stanford, Clarine Tantowi, Melissa Budijono, Eunpyo Park, and Maggie Limandibhratha. We look forward to welcoming the next induction class and celebrating the great achievements of our BAIS students.

Congratulations to Drama Students

Last night’s production was AMAZING! Everyone did a FABULOUS job! We even received a note of congratulations and well-wishes from the writer of the play.

“Dear Ms. LaMertha,

I want to thank you very much for choosing to perform my version of Little Women. Yours will be the first (and I think only) production of one of my plays ever in Indonesia.

I also want to wish all involved the very best with the production.  I hope the show is a huge success for your school and the students have a great time performing it.

I would love to be there to see it in person, but that’s not possible. (I live in the US) Rest assured, though, I am with you in spirit.

Again, all the best to you and your production.

 Gary Peterson”

Congratulations to Angel Gunaman!

Angel has been accepted to her dream school – Stanford University in California, the United States!

Be sure to congratulate Angel when you see her around campus.

Also, please be praying for the other students in the senior class as they are in the process of applying or are waiting for the decisions to be announced.

*Please note that I will be only posting student congratulations for university acceptance once a student has committed to the school. There have been lots of acceptances so far this year.

College Campuses Tour Company

This week I had the opportunity to talk with the parents of one of our 10th grade students, they were asking about touring university campus over the summer. I would like to share with you a company that organizes campus tours, they offer with the following tours:

Hello BAIS Parents!

As the “honeymoon period” of the new semester is ending, and we are now in the “nitty gritty” of things, you may start to notice more of the emotional struggles your teens are facing.  I wanted to share this helpful “Parent’s Guide to Depression and Anxiety” with you, developed by Axis. As they state in the guide, it is not a substitute for professional help or advice, but it does give a good overview of what to look for and expect in terms of depression and anxiety in teens.  Most importantly, showing your teen unconditional love and support is so important during these times – whether they feel emotionally balanced or struggle with anxiety or depression.  If you would like more resources on these topics, feel free to reach out to me and we can chat!  I am thankful for a community of parents that loves and cares for their children so well.

P.S… BAIS teens – this could be helpful for you to read as well!  If you are feeling any of these difficult emotions, please find at least ONE trusted adult to talk to and share with, whether it is me, your parents, another BAIS teacher, a pastor, etc.  You are not alone!
