From the Director’s Desk
November is one of my favorite months as it contains the American Thanksgiving holiday, a special occasion for my extended family with many traditions that I love. Coming off this IISSAC weekend and transitioning to November has multiplied my thankfulness for the privilege of being part of the BAIS family.
It has been said “Sports don’t build character, they reveal it”. Expanding the meaning to the planning and running of this IISSAC event, I believe the statement to be true in that this event revealed the character of BAIS and the things we are deeply committed to. BAIS received many compliments from the IISSAC community about different aspects of the weekend including:
Hospitality – Guests and teams felt they were loved and cared for. As a school that is committed to the biblical worldview, this is a natural extension of what we do. From our gracious parent volunteers and helpful, outgoing staff, to our student-athletes’ actions and behavior on the field, everyone reflected the biblical mandate of loving God by loving others.
Proper Preparation – Years of planning the soccer facility and months planning for the tournament resulted in a positive experience for both players and spectators despite the rain. One example of this is the soccer field drained water properly and the surface maintained its integrity resulting in a remarkably low number of field related injuries. Of course this is another trait that we value here at BAIS.
Setting a High Standard – Many teams remarked that this was the best IISSAC they have ever been a part of – a sure indicator of excellence. Given the desires and habits of our teachers and staff for academic excellence, the fact that this translated to the IISSAC event is of no surprise. However, excellence is always a moving target so we look forward in all things to evaluating and improving on what was already accomplished.
At BAIS, we strive to do those three things everyday with our community as well. We want each student to be warmly received and loved during their time with us; we want to be prepared for the time we have with students, and we seek to set a high standard for ourselves and for the students to achieve.

CLINIC NEWS
Dear Parents,
I will be doing vision screening tests over the next two weeks for all new students and all elementary students in the even grades, Kindergarten, 2nd, 4th will be tested. I will also test any students in Preschool, 1st, 3rd, 5th, who have a teacher recommendation. This is only a screening using the Snellen chart, but these results can be taken with you to have a follow up done by an Optometrist if deficiencies or questions arise regarding your child’s vision.

Hello all aspiring Mathematicians! Starting November 11 there will be Math Luncheons offered every day of the week! (bring your own lunch). Students will have the opportunity to master skills, get review for missed days and invest time in Khan Academy. Please see the following schedule.
Monday: “Equation Nation” – Mastering one variable equation’s easy to advanced (Rm 203)
Tuesday: “Khan Men” (and ladies too) – get individualized help with those sticky Khan Academy practices or just get in your time for the week. (Secondary computer lab)
Wednesday: “Homework support group” – your ten step program for Make-up and Review. (Rm 203)
Thursday: “Quizzes, tests and other fun things” – make-ups or study for upcoming assessments. (Rm 203)
Friday: “Your invited!” – but sssshhhh, it’s a secret. Individual meetings with teachers, and no, you’re not always in trouble (location classified, this message will self-destruct in 5 seconds!)

NEED VOLUNTEERS: The counseling department needs a few parents willing to be a part of a small advisory group for the counseling department. We are working towards a special certification for our department and this is a requirement for that process. If you are willing, please contact Mrs. Newell at paulanewell@baisedu.org

BAIS’ After School Activities Program
We are excited to offer some additional after school activity options for students this year. A variety of activities will be offered over three seasons throughout the year. Each season will look different regarding options for students.
Season 2: November 14 – February 24 (registration dates November 7th – November 11th)
Season 3: March 6 – May 19 (registration dates February 27th – March 3rd)
Activity schedules may vary. Please contact activity sponsors directly for more information.
Registration Process
Priority will be given on a first come first served basis to those who register and pay. Please do not give registration forms or fees to the front office. No refunds will be given unless the activity is canceled prior to the start.
Registration for Elementary Students
- Parents can register elementary students after school from 2:45-3:30 at the activities table in the front lobby on Tuesday, Nov. 8th and Thursday, Nov. 10th. Both the registration form and all participant fees must be submitted in order for a student to be registered.
Registration for Middle School/High School Students
- Students can register for activities Monday – Friday during secondary lunch with Ibu Dias or Ms. Vasquez in the athletics office. All forms and fees must be submitted in order to be officially registered.
Participants should review our BAIS Activities Manual. Both participants and sponsors are expected to know and comply with the established policies and expectations stated therewith. Failure to adhere to our policies and expectations could result in dismissal from the activity.
Those interested in sponsoring an after school activity should submit ideas and suggestions to our Athletic Director, Linnette Vasquez, at LinnetteVasquez@baisedu.org for consideration towards our season 3 calendar.
