From the Director’s Desk

This past week we had the privilege of hosting nine directors, five spouses, three principals, and four members of the NICS Home Office personnel team. Thank you to all who donated snacks for the meetings; they were greatly appreciated! The time we spent this week was focused on school improvement in all of the areas that the BAIS community values and is striving to continuously develop.

First, we participated in a partial book study on FIT, by Dr. Jay Desko and David Marks which deals with ways to improve leadership health. We had several productive group discussions and learned about the importance of maintaining a high Emotional Quotient (EQ) in all personal and professional interactions.

Secondly, we discussed the NICS Standards of Best Practices with the goal of continuing to grow in our ability to provide quality, data driven, excellent education.

Thirdly, we reviewed and discussed some organizational changes at the NICS home office. We specifically discussed changes in the area of recruiting and mobilizing teachers to come serve at our schools. This topic was particularly of interest to BAIS as the NICS recruiting office is now acutely aware of the unique needs and special requirements our school faces due to Indonesian regulations. The NICS recruiting team is continuously strategizing about how to identify teachers who already have the five years of experience necessary to serve at BAIS.

In addition to the many business tasks that were accomplished, the directors enjoyed a wonderful time of fellowship with one another. Our BAIS staff was able to share meals and fellowship with them, and we had the pleasure of introducing them to some of the unique parts of life and culture in Indonesia. I am personally thankful to be part of a group of people committed to providing quality Christ-centered education and appreciate the professional development that NICS offers.

Fully Devoted,
Karl Nielsen
