From the Director’s Desk

Welcome to October! The end of first quarter of school is quickly approaching, and we have three exciting community events to look forward to over the course of the month.

We will once again have a booth at the PVJ Educational Fair from October 14-20th. Ibu Hani Ramappa has worked hard to organize the booth and would love to speak with anyone who is interested in helping with the booth during that week. We have many parents who are marketing superstars, and we would appreciate any time you would be willing to give to share about BAIS at this event. Thank you for your willingness to volunteer.

We also have the pleasure of hosting IISSAC again at the end of the month. The IISSAC committee as well as many others in our community have been tending to myriad details that have to come together for this event, and we look forward to hosting our guests and enjoying a great weekend of competition.

At the end of the month, we will host our favorite event – Parent Teacher conferences. This is a two-day event beginning on the last day of October. We are looking forward to meeting with you and discussing the academic progress of your children. This is time for you to connect with teachers, ask questions, and hear about how your student is doing in his or her classes. Please make every effort to participate in this event. We truly appreciate you taking the time to come and meet with us!

More details about all of these events will be coming.

Thank you again for trusting us to partner with you in the education of your children.

Have a blessed and refreshing weekend,
Mr. Karl Nielsen
BAIS Director

Dental Screening Program for Elementary students

Dear Parents,

A 2-3 minute dental screening will be available at BAIS, next Thursday, October 10, 2019. The screenings will be performed by registered dentists from Gracia Dental Care Kota Baru Parahyangan, and they will be using a disposable mouth mirror and disposable gloves. After the screening, a letter will be sent home with your child stating the results of the dental screening. The goals of the dental screening program are to identify children who have visually obvious dental problems and to guide parents who do not have a dental care provider for dental treatment.

Please fill out the permission letter that was sent out in your child’s Friday folder and return it to your child’s teacher before Tuesday, October 8th 2019.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,
Dr. Mayke Rosalina Rompas
School Doctor

WWDWWD – Why We Do What We Do?

Why do we receive an offering in chapel?

Chapel is an important part of what we do at BAIS. It is regular pause in the normal class schedule for students to gather for a time of worship and Bible teaching. During these chapel times, we also receive an offering. The question could be asked, “Why receive an offering in a room full of school students?” There are two primary reasons for doing this.

The first is that we want to reinforce the principles of biblical stewardship. Our God is a giver. “God so loved the world that He gave His only son.” (John 3:16) We want each of our kids to understand that it truly is “more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35)

The second reason for receiving an offering is that we want our students to realize the potential we have to make a difference when we all come together for a specific cause. In the first semester, we have a goal of 5 juta to give to the ministry of YBSI which is a prison ministry and halfway house that uses sports to minister to young men and women at the juvenile prison in Bandung. At the halfway house they also have weekly English clubs and sports camps for local elementary children from the kampung. Romans 5:8 says, “God demonstrates His love to us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” This a great verse in the Bible that really demonstrates the testimony each of us have in Christ. It is also a powerful reminder that we should love people, even people who have made poor life choices. Our students are getting to demonstrate that love this semester through our chapel offering.

Blessings,
Mr. Jason Whitehurst

AP College Board Image

AP CollegeBoard

The CollegeBoard Advanced Placement (AP) Program is implementing many new policies and procedures for the 19-20 school year. The substantive change that directly impacts our high school students is that final exam registrations and orders need to be completed in October. Students will independently register for the exams using their CollegeBoard account and the “join codes” they receive from teachers of each course.

The fee for each exam will be Rp. 1,900,000.

Every 10-12th grade student will soon receive a letter to bring home. In the letter they will select the exams they will register for and order. Parents will be required to sign a letter, acknowledging permission to take the exam and committing to the exam fees which will be due second semester.

If you have questions about this, please email jeremythomas@baisedu.org.

Music Announcement

To prepare for the upcoming PVJ performance on October 19, all 6th and 7th grade students will attend a rehearsal on Monday, October 7 from 2:45-3:30 in the MPR. Foreign language and ELD classes for these students are cancelled that day.
