From the Director’s Desk

Dear BAIS Community,

I want to take one more opportunity to say thank you for choosing BAIS and allowing us to partner with you to educate your children. We truly count it a privilege!

One of the keys to successfully being partners with you is in the area of communication. At BAIS, we strive to be excellent communicators – which includes both hearing from our community and delivering information to our community. I would like to briefly review the many avenues of communication, and encourage you to do all you can to have the correct information and to give us feedback. If you don’t know how to access any of these, please contact the office and they will provide direction.

Technology

Website – calendar, handbooks, PowerSchool link, library resources, admission procedures, general school information

BAIS Buzz – this weekly newsletter contains priceless information.

Social Media

WhatsApp – General announcements and also means for parents to contact BAIS. Homeroom parents will send class specific events, announcements, or discussions

Facebook / Twitter / Instagram – announcements and fun celebratory pictures

Student or Class Specific Information

PowerSchool – access to student grades and grade specific classroom information
Teacher email – contact teacher directly with questions regarding your child or class specific events

Face-to-face

Organized Events

PACE Events – for example, see information on the Coffee and Conversation morning this Monday!

Parent Teacher Conferences – time to sit with your teacher to discuss individual student progress

Prearranged Meetings – Feel free to call the office or to email any BAIS staff to arrange a meeting.

Drop by Meetings – If you are on campus and would like to talk to a teacher or administrator, please feel free to ask the front office and they will check our availability. If we are available we would love to talk!

Surveys

Please keep an eye out for the numerous surveys sent out by various departments and various topics. I know at times things can be busy but please take the time to give us your much valued feedback in those areas! The most important survey will be the School Climate Survey that will come out near the end of October.

We strive to communicate well and want to hear your feedback. I hope and pray these methods work well for you and your family. Thank you!

WWDWWD: Why We Do What We Do?

Late – Starts

Believe it or not, teachers learn best in the mornings too! That is why every other Wednesday, BAIS students begin school 75 minutes later than usual, starting school at 9:00am instead of 7:45, enabling a time for professional development of our staff. This valuable time built into the schedule allows teachers to continue learning the art and science of education, modeling the idea of being a lifelong learner. Teachers are able to keep current with technology, teaching strategies, and classroom management techniques. Wednesday, September 11 is the next Late Start for the year. We as a staff look forward to growing and learning this year.

Drama Department

Dear Elementary Students and Parents,

I am sorry to announce, but this year’s production Roger’s and Hammerstein’s Cinderella will not have an elementary ensemble. I appreciate all the hard work that our elementary students have done in our past performances, but this year’s production has limited roles for the ensemble and so there will be no elementary ensemble. I hope to bring the elementary ensemble back to BAIS productions in the future.

9/11/2019 — Scenes 3-4 “The Prince Is Giving a Ball” in the MPR from 4:15PM to 6:15PM

Please wear a black tee-shirt without writing on it and report to Ms. Hall’s room at 4 o’clock to get your headshot for our commemorative program.

Guidance Counselor Corner

On Monday, September 16 from 2:00 to 2:45, a representative from Pepperdine University, a Christian university located in Malibu California, will give a presentation in Ms. Harsono’s classroom (202). 11-12 grade students who sign up in advance may attend this presentation. Parents are also welcome to join.

MAP Testing

September 9th through the 13th is the 1st semester MAP Testing week. Reminders about being a good test taker:

Get plenty of sleep the night before – recommend 8 to 10 hours
Have a filling and healthy breakfast
Be on time to the testing room

Secondary students will have the full two-period block of time for testing. If students finish before that time is over, they can use the time to read a book.

All 6th through 12th grade students need to be on time to the testing room and come with a book to read once they have finished.

Students who are absent or need more time to finish a test – Makeup tests will be on Monday, September 16th in the morning and Tuesday, September 17th in the morning. Students are responsible to check with teachers about what they missed in class during makeup days.

College Fair Update

BAIS 11th and 12th grade students will attend a college fair on Friday, September 13. Students will walk from campus to CBCS to learn about 63 different universities. Students will depart campus at 10:23 and return to BAIS at about 11:30. MAP testing will be 7th and 8th periods that day, too!
