From the Elementary Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents,

Next week is the start of September and with it comes our “Safe September” month at BAIS. Starting last week and then over the next few weeks, we will be focusing on our 4 major safety drills: Fire, Earthquake, Code Yellow, and Code Red.

The first drill we start practicing was the Fire Drill.

stop-drop-rollStudent reviewed how to STOP, DROP, and ROLL if they were ever on fire.
We also talked about that in the case of a fire, it is important to GET OUT and STAY OUT.

I would encourage you to talk with your family about a fire safety plan at home and then practice that plan all together. Some question to discuss could be… What is the safest and quickest way to exit the house in case it is on fire? Where is a place for the whole family to gather once they are outside? Who does the student call in case of a fire? Do they know how to make that call?

This week we also began practicing the Earthquake Drill with our school counselor, Mrs. Newell.

drop-cover-holdStudents learned that the first thing to do in an earthquake is
Drop, Cover, and Hold On. Once the shaking has stopped then it is important to evacuate the building. A great resources for earthquake safety procedures can be found on the website earthquakecountry.org/sevensteps/.

Again, I would encourage you to take time as a family to talk about your earthquake safety plan at home.

If you have any questions about fire safety, earthquake safety and the school safety drills, please see me or any of the admin team.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Charity Sianturi
Elementary Principal

Drama Class

Dear Elementary Parents,

As you are considering having your elementary student try out for the musical, I wanted to let you know there will be no childcare provided for elementary students participating in The Sound of Music on Wednesdays between 2:45 and 4:30, which is the beginning of play practice. This is due to the teachers involved having extended classes and other teaching commitments right before the rehearsal. Elementary students involved in The Sound of Music will need to be supervised by a parent if they remain at school or must go home and come back at 4:30. Thank you for your interest in the musical and for understanding the supervision needs for elementary.

Sincerely,
Ms. Beth LaMertha
