Academics
Welcome to BAIS Elementary
Elementary School at BAIS builds a strong academic and spiritual foundation for lifelong learning. Using an American curriculum and a Biblical, student-centered approach, teachers nurture curiosity while helping students develop strong habits of thinking, communication, and collaboration.
A key priority in the elementary years is the development of strong English literacy. Through a systematic and structured reading and writing program, students build the academic language skills needed for success in later grades and in English-speaking universities.
Hands-on learning, creative exploration, and a supportive classroom community help students discover their unique strengths, build confidence, and grow in character as they learn about God’s world.

A Strong Foundation for Learning
In elementary school, students learn to express themselves critically, to be attentive listeners, to understand world views, and apply life skills to learning. We value a holistic approach to learning through character development, differentiated instruction and active learning. The elementary program is designed to help students develop a strong foundation and understanding in Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Biblical Studies.
A Vibrant Learning Community
Elementary students also have specialist classes in music, art, computer, library and physical education. These classes allow students to explore and develop a variety of interests and skills. Indonesian and Mandarin language and culture is also taught at different levels to meet the needs of each child. We also provide English Language Development services for students that need more English language support.
Nurturing Well-Rounded Individuals
In addition to daily studies, the elementary school also provides a variety of special activities for students throughout the year. They have opportunities to perform in concerts and presentations, to participate in Fine Arts and Music performances as well as Literacy Night, Math/Science Night, I Love to Read and other activities throughout the year. Parents will be invited and encouraged to participate in times to celebrate their child’s accomplishments.
Working Together for Student Success
We want to support young learners to reach their fullest academic and social potential. We understand that not all students learn in the same way. We provide opportunities for all students to reach their full potential through a holistic approach to learning. We integrate academic, social/emotional and spiritual education to help each student build character, integrity and compassion.
We look forward to supporting and partnering with you during your child’s time at BAIS. We encourage you to be an active participant in your child’s education. On behalf of the entire Elementary School team, we welcome you to our community.

Zearn Math offers personalized, one-on-one instruction that transforms mistakes into valuable learning opportunities. Students first learn concepts with their teacher and engage in hands-on activities in class before moving on to complete personalized missions online. By combining the personalized instruction of Zearn Math with the hands-on learning experiences, middle school students can develop a strong foundation in math, build confidence in their abilities, and succeed in their academic endeavors.
“Research shows that students who complete Zearn Math lessons each week significantly increase their math scores.”
At BAIS, the middle school English program focuses on building strong reading, writing, and communication skills while fostering a love for learning. We believe language is a gift from God that helps shape our understanding of the world and each other. Through studying literature and practicing writing, students refine their ability to express ideas clearly and creatively while exploring diverse perspectives and developing empathy. We aim to create a supportive environment that values each student’s unique abilities while encouraging respect for linguistic and cultural differences. Ultimately, our goal is to help students grow as individuals and prepare them to use language to positively impact their communities.
In Social Studies, Middle Schoolers at BAIS embark on a comprehensive exploration of the world’s geographical landscape. Each year, students dive into two distinct regions, studying how geographical features influence the cultures, trends, and histories of those areas. Through interactive hands-on research projects, students explore the unique nations within each region, culminating in a comprehensive understanding and appreciation of the diverse traditions, arts, and languages that reflect the creativity and richness of God’s creation.
The Middle School Bible program takes students on a global exploration of the Bible’s trustworthiness, guiding them through significant motifs in the Old Testament and key aspects of Jesus’ life. The courses encourage students to critically analyze the historicity of biblical narratives while developing a personal connection with the teachings. By the end, students gain a deeper understanding of the Bible’s relevance and its impact on their worldview.
For our youngest learners in Kindergarten through 2nd grade, BAIS employs the Science of Reading with OG in 3D Connections from Apple Group. This innovative program combines research-backed reading principles with immersive 3D objects. Students build fundamental reading skills such as phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Through the use of 3D objects, young learners engage in interactive, multisensory experiences that make learning fun and effective. The program adapts to each student’s pace and level, creating a safe and supervised environment for their educational journey.
As students progress into 3rd through 5th grade, BAIS transitions to an English Language (EL) Curriculum. This curriculum is designed to further develop students’ language arts skills, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening. It encompasses a well-rounded approach to English language education, emphasizing not only literacy but also effective communication and critical thinking. Students delve into rich literature, hone their writing abilities, and engage in meaningful discussions to deepen their understanding of language and literature.
Each week, our middle school students have the opportunity to meet with our school counselor, who is dedicated to their holistic development. These meetings provide crucial support in social, emotional, and academic areas, equipping students to handle the complexities of adolescence. By offering personalized guidance, the counselor helps students develop the skills needed for personal growth and effective decision-making during these critical years.
